Dräger AirBoss SCBA

Dräger

The Dräger AirBoss was not built on what we thought American firefighters wanted. It was shaped by what they told us they needed!  That's the meaning behind MADE FOR AMERICA — An SCBA developed around how American firefighters move, work, and conduct aggressive interior operations.

AirBoss wasn't simply adapted for the American market — it was developed through continuous collaboration with the people who depend on their SCBA when every breath matters.

See how feedback from more than 50 U.S. fire departments and agencies — combined with thousands of hours of research — became an SCBA designed specifically for North America.

Dräger engineers and product leaders set out to design and build an SCBA specifically for USA firefighters.  Working alongside more than 50 USA fire departments across the country over a five year period and thousands of hours of gathering direct feedback from hundreds of American firefighters the AirBoss was born.

American Firefighters did more than discuss the AirBoss.  They put it on, moved in it, worked in it, and breathed through it.  Prototypes were worn during training, evaluated under realistic fire conditions, refined through repeated testing, and returned to the field repeatedly resulting in thousands of hours of use, evaluation and refinement.  After each use or test, firefighters told Dräger what worked and what needed to be improved.

This process helped define the balance, ergonomics, cleanability, serviceability, and overall performance of the Dräger AirBoss SCBA.  Their experiences and feedback helped design a pack with:
•    A lowered center of gravity that places more of the load around the hips
•    A floating back frame and dual-axis waist belt that move with the firefighter
•    A facepiece lens curved in two directions to minimize visual distortion
•    A clear, readily accessible head-up display
•    360° buddy lights that communicate air status across the fireground
•    A modular design that can expand with a department’s needs
